Hi!! Some friends and I have been working on a new art and literature project called Matryoshka, and we were hoping that more people might like to become involved! We'll be meeting this coming Wednesday (December 27), 7pm, at Frankie Doodles (near the corner of 3rd and Division). Please come if you're interested! If you'd like to partake but can't make it to the meeting, please send an email to spokanediy@gmail.com. This project is open to everyone, regardless of preferred artistic medium, skill, or geographical location. Here's a description of the project:

Matryoshka is a collective multi-media art/literature project modeled after the Russian nesting dolls (which share the name). The first part of the project entails making pieces inspired by this quote:

"We are no longer a part of the drama of alienation; we live in the ecstasy of communication. And this ecstasy is obscene."
-Jean Baudrillard

The contributions can be of nearly any medium so long as it can be documented: photography, music, film, painting, drawing, short stories, poetry, etc! So far, we have a song, short film, and illustration. We're hoping to gather submissions to finish this stage by the end of January.

The next stage entails making pieces inspired by those made in the first stage, and we'll continue for a few stages until we have a substantial collection of contributions with which to organize a print publication accompanied by a multi-media CD.

Thanks, and please be in touch if you have any ideas or questions!

diy stationery!
I recently made some stationery out of these cute flash cards I found at a thrift store a few weeks ago. I pasted some of my favorites onto pieces of paper & made copies & cut them in half & now I have a ton of cute stationery! Awesome!

Fun! I am hoping to make some other projects out of the flash cards, too &hearts

Don't you hate it when you mean to post in a community, and you post to your personal journal instead?  I hope the intended recipient did not see this.  Oops.

Anyway, I hadn't knitted in years and so I decided to try these two simple patterns to get back in the saddle.  I have to finish sewing up the white set that matches, as they're for a friend who is having twins.  I did notice that the color on the picture is a little lighter than in real life.

So, one of my stated reasons for wanting a digital camera was so I could share some of my crafts in this community.  My sweetie recently got me a camera, so it's time to follow through.  I like a lot of different kinds of crafts, so I'll probably post a weird collection.  Today we start with embroidery.  I usually cross-stitch, but I really liked this pattern, so I had to learn several stitches, including the ever-intimidating French knot.  I rarely keep anything I've made, but I just loved the way these turned out and decided they were mine.

Sadly, I've been completely slacking on the craft front due to my crazy new career. Luckily, I found some time to do a completely pointless & slightly silly project over spring break. The local newspaper had a contest that called readers to make something different out of Peeps. That's not a challenge I can just stand by and ignore. No sir.

From this:

To this:

I call it "Peeping Flower". Hopefully I'll have a cooler craft update one of these days. Sigh.

This community is in serious need of some action. So I thought I'd share with you my latest craftiness...

Inspired by sugar_revolt and some tacky souvenirs I saw in Mexico, I came up with a sparkly way of spreading the word...

Some fabulous crafty friends have organized a knitting/craft night on Wednesday's at the Rainbow Center! It starts at about 6:30pm and should go until 8:30pm or so. They're really nice, and they might do some radical cheers for you upon request. Everyone is welcome! The address is 508 W. 2nd Avenue.

I'm a new member.

The first project on my new sewing mahcine and I break it!

I accidently reversed too close or after the edge of the fabric had been met and the needle pushed a peice of fabric through where the needle goes through the foot and into where the bobbin and other parts are.

In trying to rescue my garment, that peice ripped off, and now the peice is well and truly jammed in there. It's behind where the bobbin and it's case rest in. The machine will run, but, logically the needle thread will not catch the bobbin thread because that's where the bit of fabric is caught.

I tried forever but I can't get it out. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to toke it in to be repaired professionally? If I do, about how much can I expect to pay for that and where in Spokane is cheapest to have it done?

Thanking you all in advance.

craft night?
Since our weekly knitting night has been falling apart a bit lately (although it sounds like it will be getting back on track soon...), I was thinking that maybe we should have a craft night on some Friday night in the near future. We can figure out somewhere downtown to meet, or even have it at my place if we can't think of anywhere that works (I live on the lower South Hill.) Sound fun?
